Your future company, Vesselsens is an innovative MedTech StartUp founded in August 2020. Our headquarter is located at BonnProfits Gründungszentrum, a young and dynamic start-up location between university and business and well connected to public transport, ICE train station and airport.

VesselSens develops a groundbreaking technology platform based on implantable, biocompatible sensors which are used in the treatment of vascular diseases. The initial VesselSens’ product StentGuard extends a conventional stent with sensors – transforming it to a ‘smart-stent’ that controls itself. We are currently entering the product development phase for which we received financial support from the EIC Accelerator. Our goal is to get the CE mark and to enter the EU market by 2026.

To support our team, we’re looking for a half time:

PhD Student (m/f/d)

ethical, legal and social impacts with interest in the ethical implications of Med Tech and Digital Health developments.

The focus of the research is directed on the ethical implications on one hand and the patient as well as doctors perspective in the face of these. The societal and health policy relevance of these technological developments will also be examined. Other aspects to be investigated include the fears and hopes surrounding the use of AI, the generation of sensitive data, quality of life, detection, prevention, vigilance, remote control and other issues associated with wearing a self-controlling implant. The scientific embedding of the PhD work takes place at the Institute for Medical Humanities of the University Hospital of Bonn. The fellowship is due to start in December 2023 and will run for 2 years with the possibility of extension to 3 years.
What you offer to us:
  • background: bioethics and/or philosophy eventually combined with biology and/or, sociology and/or psychology and/or medicine

  • Interest in dealing with ethical, social and legal issues of innovative medical technologies

  • confident use of MS Office

  • quick comprehension in the development of complex relationships

  • experience with statistical analysis and design of scientific surveys

  • due to the intensive communication with the target groups, we would like to have fluent German, both spoken and written.

  • a good mix of teamwork and initiative, independence and determination

  • openness and sociability
